Speaker: There's still (inc)- it's all over that- that way now, Vimy-Ridge. The- this is a field over there and the museum. The museum's right up over in there. Interviewer: Uh-huh. Speaker: And then we got this when we were clearing it and there's a log house and barn over there. Interviewer: Yeah. Speaker: Yeah that's (inc)- that's part of the- that's part of that field too. This is my front yard here (laughs) the- when I had lots of flowers out there. Interviewer: Yeah that's a lot of flowers.

sI'll have to look at that- Speaker: Well- well that was- was his farm out in Essonville but they origin-- Interviewer: Yeah yeah, the very original one. Speaker: Ah, he explained it to me, they did and that was the road going by and then when they in, that was the log house there and that was the chicken pen and that was the- the barn and the horse stable and (laughs) whatever. But I took a picture of it later. There's nothing there but that was the-

Speaker: Yeah and she was raised- born and raised up on the Comstock-hill at Eagle-Lake up at Sir Sam's. Interviewer: Uh-huh. Speaker: And then they ah, they moved out of there when she married Grandpa-Murry, well then they moved down to Allsaw. Interviewer: Uh-huh. Speaker: And the little l-- log house is still standing but the roof's off it. Interviewer: (Coughs) Oh dear (laughs). Speaker: But dad, ah, dad's (inc) was five brothers and grandpa-Blue he used to draw the mail from Blairhampton to Minden.

Speaker: When I was up there, I got thinking about blacksmithing. It's funny working in an iron mine, you'd think about blacksmithing. And I wanted to make my own country tools, like tools to work your garden- Interviewer: Mm-hm. Speaker: To work- to build your log house and-so-on you-know? Yeah, so- Interviewer: So this is- 'kay so we're looking from your blacksmith shop (inc)-

Do yeah- they- they should be out after a good heavy rain. If we get a good heavy rain, they should be out now. And where- we lived on the lake in a log house there. We- I used to walk around and get the morels.

Wife's been cooking supper for us so we better take that on too. Not everywhere we get to snack to eat but we- we get offered, we take it. So we goes to the house, walk into the house ain't a long piece to the house. Pretty nice log house, old old log house but it was a pretty nice one. And then the right-hand side going to the barn- or to the house, was a whole row of buildings along here

So he goes to the house and it's an old log house with a summer kitchen on the side wood, eh? Like another addition thing.

Yeah, we sh- m-- we built a new house when we were teaching so that we- there was here- the original log house that the pioneers built was here originally. And then somebody, I'm not sure who framed it over, made it look like a framehouse. But it had seen better days, so we tore it down and ah built this one in nineteen-seventy-two.

Speaker: Now this is the- they call this the Timmins house. Interviewer: Yes. Speaker: And that's way over here, across the river. And it is a log house, by the way. Interviewer: Okay. Speaker: It's still a log house. Now this one, I went up as far- ah, Brockton's.

Sure. Yeah, there was an old log house. Darren's mother and father and then ah there's five siblings in that family. They lived here and um, R-J were they called them, Robin-Jeff, ah, he worked in a factory in Port-Credit and my father, when we had the farm here, he worked this land.

And there was this old log house that supposedly, I-guess, was the first one that we had as the chicken house. So, that was when the-- na-- I guess he built the house that's there now, and raised his family in that. And he married Marie-Norman. Which is another name-

It's still standing. It's kind-of remodelled and fixed up but it's- you'll come to a log house and it's just up from that. But it wasn't the original school, just across the road from that. There's a house there now but there was a little school there that my father went- they call it the red- little red school house

I wouldn't- I know nothing about- but- but- but ah- but they had a butter print and they'd make it exact pounds you-know? And- and wrap them. I- I don't know what kind of fancy wrap they had but I can remember her making butter in that log house that was sitting here. Ah that would be um- I don't know if it was more than once a week or not. Like we didn't have much refrigeration. We didn't have any. We didn't really refrigerate.

the machine on so- Interviewer: Did you plant the apple-tree yourself? Speaker: This particular apple-tree. We have several apple-trees, um, on the property. This was an old farm, it was considered the Clifton-Farm, um, if you go back out to the high-way you'll see a little old log-house that was a part of an old Clifton building. And so this was primarily all farmland, would have been an open field. It was very open when we first moved here. Ah, the cedar he-- hedge wasn't there. The pine trees were planted by myself and my husband and

Speaker 2: And then put the cardboard on after. Interviewer: Did you do that on your own? Speaker 2: With help with friends, yeah. The same friends that helped me (inc) today, yesterday. Speaker 1: This is the original house where you are sitting. Interviewer: Oh yeah. Speaker 2: This is all- this is all log house. Speaker 1: It's a log house and it's one of the first-

One that stands out, was ah being in the old log house- Interviewer 1: Oh yeah. Speaker 37: And my parents were building a new home right beside it.

Like you start at that end and come directly up the Scotch-Line. They- the original settlers came up Grant's-Creek and they settled at the back. They'd have a little log house there and then they slowly developed the Scotch-line and ah- one farm at a time.

across the road from the school. Ah now they moved his grave to ah the old burial ground ah, but he taught in that lower school for a little while too. Interviewer: Okay. Speaker: Yeah, so it was around for quite a while. It actu-- it, that school was sitting across where the log house is at one time. You know where the log house is on the corner, the side road here on Scotch-line?

And you know a lot of these lakes up here, there's timber on the bottom, there's all this timber. ... I've- I've made log tongs for a couple of brothers and one guy who worked a boat ... and hocked this- this a logs, they brought him in, he said some of it they just cut up for firewood ...
